Background

The City of Belfast Youth Concert Band is one of the senior musical groups within the Belfast Education and Library Board. The Concert Band was formed in 1965 to service the musical needs of the youth within the city. Since its inception the Band has had an age range of 14-21 years and is made up of young people from all areas and backgrounds.

As a result of the hard work of all previous and current members, along with the endeavours of the staff assigned to the Concert Band, it has developed into a highly respected and valuable part of the cultural and musical life of the City of Belfast.

The Concert Band is very busy, giving as many as 8 major, and highly contrasting, concerts a year. The locations of these concerts range fron school halls and churches to the famous Ulster Hall in Belfast and the newly built Waterfront Hall beside the River Lagan. The Concert Band rehearses on a Saturday morning during term time.

Over the past few years, the City of Belfast Youth Concert Band has been fortunate enough to go on tour every other year, alternating with the City of Belfast Youth Orchestra. This year it is the band who will take the opportunity of a tour to Italy at the start of July, during which time we hope to further enhance the musical development of the students, and broaden their cultural horizons.
